Time to update this list so that old friends of Drs Holmes and Watson may squee at what’s coming, and new acquaintances will have an easy time getting to know the adventures of these idiot medical husbands in love.

Apart from having chosen anaesthesiology as his medical speciality and having a bit more of a taste for the finer things in life, Dr John Watson in this series is pretty much our canon fellow. His abilities in managing difficult colleagues (one difficult colleague in particular) gets him promoted to Clinical Director of Operative Services, which means dividing his time between patient work and administration. This also technically makes him Sherlock’s superior — a fact which Sherlock shamelessly takes advantage of. John is the diplomat of the Holmes-Watson household but not a pushover, and he has his dark side. Before meeting the love of his life he was a bit of a nomad and easily bored, shifting from short relationship to short relationship and serving several tours abroad in the RAMC. 

Though he is a star in the OR with a research career any neurosurgeon would be envious of, becoming a doctor was the absolute last thing Sherlock’s parents thought he should do. Firmly on the autism spectrum, it has been a rocky road for Sherlock to learn how to even attempt to address the emotional needs of patients and their family members, and to manage co-operating with his colleagues and other staff. There’s only one thing he loves more than neurosurgery, and that’s John. His older brother is the CEO of a Big Pharma company, and his mother is horrible. 

The You Go To My Head series is, to a large extent, a chronicle of Sherlock’s journey from a loner hiding his ASD, which he sees as his dark secret, to someone who embraces all aspects of what defines his personality and makes him both brilliant and challenged by the world which wasn’t designed for his particular brain.

The stories are as follows:

Grey Matters
This is where it all started. Doctor Sherlock Holmes is the hospital’s new neurosurgical star. He performs miracles with his scalpel, but his bedside manner leaves a lot to be desired. The task to address the issue falls on Doctor John Watson, one of King’s College Hospital’s senior neuroanaesthetists.

Cerebral Approaches
Doctors Holmes and Watson have moved in together, but is John ready to go public with their relationship?

Blood Thicker Than Water
An emergency surgery offers John the unexpected opportunity to meet Sherlock’s brother.

Rejection Slip (by 7PercentSolution)
Sherlock is sulking. Is it just his garden-variety moodiness at work, or is there something more going on?

Take Heart
Frustrated with his job and haunted by old issues he has never resolved, John signs up for one more RAMC deployment, leaving Sherlock behind. When tragedy strikes in Afghanistan, will their relationship withstand the blow?

John has scarcely recovered from his Afghanistan tour when Sherlock is injured at work, putting their already strained relationship to the test.

As though a disastrous Christmas in Sussex hadn’t already strained Sherlock’s relationship with his parents to a breaking point, Violet and George Holmes now have devastating news to deliver. Will it bring Sherlock closer to his family or drive the wedge between them even deeper?

Prognosis
Year 2000, Cambridge University. Sherlock Holmes is a medical student whose difficulties in getting along with his peers have caught the attention of the teaching staff.

Wide Awake
The stakes are high for our doctors as they allow a BBC film crew into the operating room to document a brain tumour operation done with their celebrity patient awake during surgery.

Christmas 2.0
As agreed upon in “Wide Awake”, the extended Holmes clan is spending Christmas in Zurich. Will Violet behave, and could this be the year which helps even Sherlock discover some holiday cheer?

John thinks a holiday should be a relaxing affair with sex and good food and lounging around and maybe a bit of fresh air. Sherlock thinks it should be about a controlled fall down a mountainside at considerable speed. Our doctors, with big brother Mycroft in tow, head to Verbier for a skiing holiday.
